Public Policy

Santa Rosa Branch Public Policy supports the AAUW National and California mission to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research.

For our 2022 – 2023 programs we have focused on voting rights and reproductive rights.  Hence we have collaborated with the League of Women Voters (LWV) frequently.  Our activities so far include:

  • Hosting Deva Proto, Sonoma County Registrar of Voters for a discussion on all matters voting – updates to procedures and accessibility. LWV chairs gave us a national update on voter restrictive practices and encouraged participation in Get Out The Vote (GOTV) activities.

  • With LWV we held several GOTV letter writing campaigns resulting in 535 letters sent through Vote Forward targeting states throughout the nation.

  • Again, featured LWV by hosting a Propositions review ahead of elections.

  • In March each year, our branch members participate in AAUW Lobby Days where the state organization sets up appointments for us to talk directly to state representatives to advance legislation that meets our public policy priorities.

  • Featured CEO of Planned Parenthood Northern California to discuss reproductive freedom and where we go from here. Attendees included members from other county women’s groups.
